Verso i 30 anni del Red Setter Club d’Italia

La fine dell’anno è sicuramente il momento degli auguri ma anche quello dei bilanci e dei propositi per l’anno che verrà.

Nel 2026 il Red Setter Club d’Italia compirà 30 anni: 30 anni spesi con coerenza per perseguire i suoi propositi iniziali: favorire la conoscenza e la diffusione del setter irlandese a caccia e nelle prove di lavoro, contribuendo al miglioramento delle sue attitudini venatorie ed al mantenimento degli standard morfologici funzionali al lavoro sul campo.

Chiunque abbia seguito la razza in questi anni sa quanti passi sono stati fatti e quanto oggi i nostri cani siano affidabili sotto ogni aspetto: avidità, ferma, qualità di movimento e stile di razza sono finalmente qualità acquisite e facilmente reperibili nelle migliori linee da lavoro presenti in Italia e nei vicini paesi europei (Francia in primis) oltre all’Irlanda, ovviamente.

Quindi il nostro lavoro è finito? Tutt’altro! Dobbiamo mantenere sempre alta l’attenzione al lavoro sul campo ed alla pratica venatoria; dobbiamo continuare a favorire la nostra presenza nelle prove specialistiche su selvaggina vera (beccaccino in primis ma anche beccacce e selvaggina di montagna), perché troppo spesso le prove  su “selvaggina naturale” organizzate dall’ENCI si corrono su surrogati messi sul terreno poche ore prima, risultando così poco probanti; dobbiamo continuare ad essere riferimento per gli appassionati che vanno alla ricerca di un buon cucciolo da portarsi in casa; dobbiamo continuare a mantenere vivi i rapporti con gli altri club di razza in Europa, consolidati da frequentazioni che si rinnovano ad ogni Campionato d’Europa.

Il prossimo anno sarà rinnovato anche il Consiglio Direttivo con l’ingresso di nuovi giovani consiglieri che potranno raccogliere il testimone da chi per molti anni ha tirato la carretta e dare nuova forza ed entusiasmo alle iniziative in corso. 

Per il trentesimo anniversario stiamo lavorando all’organizzazione di una manifestazione celebrativa, con chi ancora c’è e - soprattutto - ricordando chi non c’è più: siete tutti invitati sin d’ora (i dettagli saranno pubblicati sul sito a tempo debito).

In conclusione, a nome di tutto il Consiglio Direttivo, vi giungano i migliori auguri di Buon Natale e Felice Anno Nuovo.

Towards the 30th Anniversary of the Red Setter Club d’Italia

The end of the year is a time for best wishes, but also for taking stock and looking ahead to the season to come.

In 2026, the Red Setter Club d’Italia will mark its 30th anniversary: thirty years of consistent commitment to its original purpose—promoting the Irish Setter as a true hunting dog in the field and in field trials, improving its natural hunting qualities, and safeguarding a type and structure that are genuinely functional for work.

Anyone who has followed the breed over the years knows how far it has come and how reliable today’s dogs are in every respect. Drive, pointing instinct, quality of action and true breed style are now well established traits, clearly found in the best working bloodlines in Italy, in neighbouring European countries—France foremost among them—and, of course, in Ireland.

Does this mean our work is done? Quite the opposite.

We must continue to place strong emphasis on real work in the field and genuine shooting practice. We must support and encourage participation in specialist trials on truly wild game—first and foremost snipe, but also woodcock and upland quarry—because too often so-called “natural game” trials are run on recently released birds, offering little value as a meaningful test of a working dog. We must remain a point of reference for sportsmen and women seeking a good, honest puppy for both field and home, and we must continue to strengthen the long-standing relationships with fellow breed clubs across Europe, renewed at each European Championship.

In the coming year, the Club’s Board will also be renewed, welcoming younger members ready to take over from those who have carried the responsibility for many years, bringing fresh energy and enthusiasm to the work already underway.

To celebrate our 30th anniversary, we are planning a commemorative event, bringing together those who are still with us and—above all—remembering those who are no longer here. You are all warmly invited; further details will be published on the website in due course.

In closing, on behalf of the entire Board of Directors, I extend our warmest wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
